Frequently asked questions.

What’s the difference between Therapy and Coaching ?

Therapy

is focused on your mental health symptoms. It will help you to understand and resolve underlying psychological issues that are causing you distress. It is focused on how your past is affecting your present. If you want support in navigating your emotions, improving interpersonal relationships and the way they impact you, therapy is for you. Success in therapy is measured by improved mood, lower anxiety levels and a greater sense of happiness.

Coaching

on the other hand, focuses on pursuing your passions, or breaking free from stagnation or "stuckness.". It facilitates achieving your goals, a new life path or a career transition. I would support you in making the right decisions for you, and strategising the means of getting there. This could involve developing and sticking to an action plan, by maintaining your motivation, building confidence, and overcoming challenges. As your Coach, I am there to warrant your success and to help you reach fuller potential.

What will happen during my first session ?

Your initial session provides the opportunity for us to meet to discuss your situation, what you would like to gain and move towards. It can feel intimidating and uncomfortable at first, but I am very experienced, and am confident that I will put you at ease. It’s an opportunity for you to express your issues as you see them, and for me to start to gain an understanding of what your needs are and the sources of whats troubling you. I will answer any of your questions, and you will get a sense of how I work.

During subsequent sessions, you will be encouraged to talk freely about whatever is causing you distress and you will be listened to in an accepting and non-judgemental manner. At times, we will look at what is happening in the here-and-now, as this will give you valuable insight into how you might relate to others and find new ways of being.

We will also agree on ways you can ‘experiment’ in using your newly acquired skills and resources in between sessions. This will significantly enhance the change process and outcomes. In my experience, when clients understand theoretical concepts, they can self-regulate to achieve their desired changes...

What’s better, in-person or online sessions ?

The success of both coaching and therapy is founded on a trusting relationship, within a safe and confidential environment where you feel free to explore and express your feelings and emotions. For this reason, I prefer to work in-person when possible. However, many people’s lifestyles do not allow that, and therefore I have gained a lot of experience working online.  Some people have reported that they feel less inhibited by the presence of a therapist, and find online sessions to be equally effective and resourceful. You will need to have an isolated place where you feel at ease, and free from disturbances.

Please note, I do not offer couples and family therapy online.

How frequent are sessions and do I have to commit ?

Yes! If you feel you are ready for change, commitment is of the utmost importance, both in attending appointments regularly and also during the session.

The frequency of sessions is variable. On the outset it’s advisable to attend weekly sessions in order to make significant changes and to build a momentum. This can be reduced to fortnightly sessions once you start to feel an improvement.

The length of your treatment will very much depend on your unique circumstances and needs. I recommend starting with six sessions, followed by a review after that. Most therapy tends to be longer term, and can last for many months or even years.

It’s worth considering that once you start sessions, new issues and perspectives can arise that you were not aware existed, and that warrant exploration. It is of course possible to also see improvement faster than you expected.

Im not sure if my problem justifies coming to see you ?

What actually counts is how something is making you feel. If you are experiencing distress or suffering, that’s what’s important. Therapy can help you gain clarity on an issue, change old patterns, untangle complex personal issues, or embark on a journey of self-development. You may seek support as a result of a crisis, or you may be encouraged by family members, friends or colleagues.

Are sessions confidential?

Yes, both Coaching and Therapy sessions are confidential. The exception would be if you were to pose a danger to yourself or others, in which case we would discuss this together, and the relevant parties would be notified.

How do I pay for sessions?

In-person sessions can be paid by card or cash. Payment is required at the beginning of the session.

On-line (Zoom) sessions can be paid by SumUp payment link or bank transfer before the session.

Individual sessions cost 70 euros.

Cancellation

Clients can cancel or reschedule an appointment, as long as they provide 48 hours notice excluding weekends.

If your appointment is cancelled with less than 48 hours notice, or you fail to come, you will be charged for the appointment as I won’t be able to offer that slot to another client.
